DECAY is a set of performative wearable horns to develop a mystical bone like creature.

Our horns took visual inspiration of the natural decay of life turning into bones in a morbid yet beautiful way. The horns are customized to move based on the performer's movement. Compared to how our relationship to the world is a parasite, our wearable and the euphonium musician have a symbiote relationship to act as a metaphor.

This outfit was worn and performed by tuba musicians at a mesmeric exhibit where inflatable sculptures, projections, kinetic fabrics, & music created a space for audience to explore WQED (Mr. Rogers Show Film Studio).

WQED is a PBS member television station in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

This hypnotic circus was available for the public to enjoy. There were multiple musicians that played various music and had their own type of performative costume.
WQED is where mr. rogers was filmed!
DECAY Uses kinetic fabrics & pneumatic ACTUATORS to perform tuba music.

With extensive research and explorations with the arduino and engineering actuations, the perfromative wearble is able to function solely by the movement of the musician. Our horns are customized to move based on the performer’s movement. The horns integrates the data from the performer’s head to activate the movement. When the user leans their head to the left, then the right horns will trigger and start to move up and down. Vice versa, when the head is tilted to the right, then the left ears move. In cases, where the performer twists their head quickly, side to side, then both ears will inflate slowly. When the user tilts forward, the ears will quickly inflate. Lastly, when the user tilts back, then both ears will slowly pulse.

designed a public performance using the textile, inflatable, and electronic systems.

The key to this wearable was being able to incorporate movement and physical expression and work within a live performance context.
